Spec Comparison of the Xiaomi Fimi X8 SE 2020 and the Hubsan Zino 2
In this review and feature comparison we compare side by side two very similarly priced camera drones.
If you're looking to get in to aerial photography as a beginner and looking for affordable camera drones, either of these two could be perfect.
The two drones were both released in 2020 and are new to the camera drone market. They are also both similar in that they are the second version of their model.
The Fimi is around $449 brand new at the moment, depending on where you look and the Hubsan Zino 2 is $100 more at $549 brand new.
Physical Comparisons
The Fimi and the Hubsan both share a similar size, shape and dimensions, with the Hubsan being slightly taller when both are folded up.
Even their volumes are almost identical with both being around 1.5L in volume. This is the size of 2 bottles of wine.
The Hubsan Zino 2 is much heavier than the Fimi though, so the weight comes in the form of a bigger battery pack, even though they are similar sizes.
You get a combined weight of 1135 grams for the drone and controller of the Fimi and slightly heavier 1400g for the Hubsan Zino 2 and it's drone.
Performance Comparison
In terms of performance, the first difference is that in top speed, the Hubsan Zino 2 is capable of 72kmh top speed and the Fimi X8 SE 2020 is capable of 65km, so a 7 kmh difference, not much.
They both have the same transmission distance of 8km, which is good for this price bracket drone.
For flight time, the Fimi just edges this with a total of 35 minutes, compared to 33 minutes for the Hubsan Zino 2.
Both respectable flight times for this price bracket camera drone.
They are both folding drones and use similar positioning sensors in the form of GPS, GLONASS and Optical Flow. The Fimi also uses BEIDUO as well which means quick GPS positioning.
Photo and Video Comparison
They both start off with 80 degrees field of view cameras and 100 mbps video bit rate, so similar features there.
The first difference in the camera is that of image sensor size. The Hubsan Zino 2 goes for a more used size of 1/2.3" and the Fimi uses a new 1/2.6", which is a slightly smaller image sensor to it's first version drone, the X8 SE 2018.
Both camera drones take 12MP photos and 4K video at 30 fps.
The Fimi does though take RAW images and can record in F-log flat profile. Some may see this as a more professional approach to photography and videography for budding aerial film makers.
You get the same manual controls with shutter speed, manual ISO and a number of photo modes with each camera drone.
They both have active tracking in-built so you can follow yourself or another subject from the sky with each of these camera drones.
And both take advantage of a 3-axis gimbal to stabilize and smooth footage out.
Summary
On paper these are two very similar drones, with the Hubsan edging a couple of features and the Fimi having raw and f-log video mode for better colour grading in post.
If you want a larger sensor the Hubsan is your best bet but it's also a heavier drone and does not fly as long.
For the money they are both amazing camera drones and would suit most when getting in to aerial drone film making and aerial photography.
